Our Season in Quarters

Post by Duncan Freemason » Sunday 15th 2018f April 2018 03:53:35 PM

It’s generally accepted as the most reliable form of in season form, as you tend to play every opponent once in each quarter. Ours a bit skewed because of St Mirren and Brechin.

Q1 The Quarter From Hell
Played 9, Won 1, Drawn 4, Lost 4. Title campaign effectively over by October. Houston under pressure, team awash with bad signings. 7 points on the board.

Q2 The Second Quarter From Hell

Played 9, Won 1, Drawn 4, Lost 4. Houston’s managerial career draws to a close. Abysmal performances make 9th place the most likely outcome. Hartley to the rescue (we hoped). Another miserable 7 points added.

Q3 The Third Quarter Fight Back

Played 9, Won 6, Drawn 1, Lost 2. New players arrive, some dross gets removed, some players leave. Brechin games help significantly. 19 points added. The remaining dross get ready to down tools as “job done”.

Q4 Why Should We Try? (Ongoing)

Played 6, Won 1, Drawn 2, Lost 3 Points on the board....5.

In theory, the toughest quarter with the most games against the league’s better sides. The known duds continue to give the team the minimum, the better players have no chance of compensating for the dross still in the team. Even with three games to play, the quarter cannot match Q3, but still has the potential to be the worst quarter of the lot. An abject and abysmal team that needs to be completely dismantled with only a small group worthy of a place next season.
Can the soon to be gone dross raise their game to beat opponents who have nothing at stake?

At time of writing, our points have come from:

Brechin 10
Morton 9
ICT 4
DU 4
QOTS 4
Dumbarton 3
Livingston 2
St Mirren 1
Dunfermline 1

Brechin and Morton are the only teams we have beaten three times, and we have failed to beat Dumbarton and St Mirren so far, and Dunfermline and Livingston at all.

Dire reading and lays bare how bad this season has been.

Also utterly exposes how under invested we've been that St.Mirren, relegated in 2015 have bounced back in 3 years and yet we will be approaching 9 years stuck in the Championship (if we avoid the play-off which isn't a certainty).
  • Recorded their 1st home league win of 2017/2018 campaign on 30th December 2017

See at the last game of the season when they do that lap of honour thing

I think the whole crowd should exit the stadium on the final whistle but should leave behind a banner saying "unacceptable"
I'm a bad man who doesn't waste time wondering what could've been when I am what could've been and what could not have been. I live on both sides of the fence. My grass is always green.

.....and Livingston were League 1 last season (although I hate using them as an example as things there are never what they seem). Their “tight budget” of the past four seasons has seen them lose money to the tune of £750 a day.....every day.

I dont think its under investment thats the main issue now though although it certainly was a few seasons ago. Our budget this season is the 2nd biggest in the league and yet we're going to finish 3rd bottom it would seem. Bad planning by the BOD and management have caused us more issues than the amount of cash we're ploughing into the team now. No point in having decent sides when clubs like Rangers and Hibs are in the league and then putting out a load of crap when the league is actually winnable. Houston re-signing the likes of kerr etc and signing players like Harris have meant that we're stuck fighting relegation instead of promotion . Would be interesting to see what someone like jack Ross would've done with our budget this season. I doubt we'd be in the mess we are currently thats for sure.

Hopefully they won't be stupid enough to do that unless they win their last 3 games. Worst season since 2001-2002 as I'm not counting the SPL relegation season as a different level. They should simply clap the fans as they leave the pitch and hopefully most of them will not be seen in the home team at TFS stadium again.

I can see them getting round this by having Alex Smith doing a lap of honour at the end of the match. I can also see the players crawling round with him to take in the applause. I hope this doesn't happen but I wouldnt be surprised.

I heard that Alex can do 400 metres in a minute so they will need to crawl fast

Q4 now reads P7. W2 D2 L3. Pts 8

Will definitely now end as our second best quarter. Thank God for that. I reckon Hartley must have really been feeling the pressure these last few weeks watching the team fall away again. If Dumbarton lose tonight, then the league table will look very comfortable, but the truth has been very different.
Hopefully next season’s performances will wipe this season from the memory.
