Gary Locke Sacked

Raith acting after his win-less run stretched to 14 games. Never struck me as a charismatic individual and his managerial record appears abysmal.
Contemplating the future of One F in Falkirk

I think Lambie and Bannon are the only two in my time supporting the club.

One of the most shameful acts of any BOD at Falkirk was the sacking of Willie Cunningham .Willie was absolutely phuqen shafted by the board , aided and abetted by ersewipe "Players Union" rep Alex Ferguson after the infamous player meeting in a local hostelry. Willie turned down the Scotland job and the thanks he got for that by the tossers in charge and Ferguson was the sack.

It says on his Wikipedia page that he recommended Ferguson for the St.Mirren job when he resigned so would be strange for him to do that if Ferguson was instrumental in his sacking at Falkirk.

Then again Wikipedia could be talking crap.

I wasn't around at the time but I'm pretty sure it's a fairly well attested story.

IIRC there was a dispute over bonus payments or something. Willie wanted the players involved disciplined but the board refused to back him. So he quit, or was sacked, I can't remember.

So Ferguson never directly got him the sack, but was involved in the incident. I thought his first management job was at the Shire anyway, so maybe enough water had passed under the bridge by the time the SM job came up that Cunningham acted as a reference of sorts for him.

Ferguson was gutted they gave the job to John Prentice.

Was he angling for it?

Would have been a better appointment than Prentice, I'm sure!

Cunningham was a fantastic manager. We went up to the old first division and scored something like 96 goals on the way. We had a great side, but Ferguson was believed to be a ringleader with the players who eventually manoeuvred him out the club as the BoD refused to back the manager. Shame on them. Probably the best manager we have ever had (in my lifetime), although Hughes came very close until he recruited Dad's Army and he started believing his own publicity....
A.P.K.A. - alba bairn. I don't know why they "suspended" my previous account? Ask them.....
