It keeps getting better.. :D
HMRC moves to put Rangers into administration.
The court will now have to decide whether the administrator should be appointed by Rangers or the tax authorities - with important implications for the future of the Glasgow-based club.

Good on them. It shows that they aren't prepared to let Whyte lead them on some merry dance.

I wish I could revisit the time when Rangers fans geniunely believed they were going to sign Ronaldo and show them a glimpse of the future.

Who was that Porto player they chased for about 2 years in the late 90s, was it Jardel or something?
Remember reading at the time also some businessman was putting up mega bucks, sure it was Lewis or something like that?

Yep it was Jardel. He was like a Brazilian Matt Le Tisier with a hint of Ally McCoist - and back in his prime probably about as big as both of them today combined!

Again, no finance expert, but surely this is a move to allow HMRC to appoint a different administrator more designed to look after HMRC's interests ?
Either that or a notice of intent to liquidate the club due to the perceived attempt to con the HMRC out of the upcoming tax bill by rangers deciding to jump into administration before the case was resolved ?

Certainly correct on the first point, the second? Well, I do think it is a direct response to Whyte's attempt of shafting them over. Time will tell but HMRC have a pretty good, solid/tenacious, recent rep in terms of chasing football teams for money.

With recent court cases essentially calling Whyte dishonest (was called an unreliable witness recently - no surprise mind you) I would think that the courts would be more inclined to allow HMRC to appoint an administrator of choice.

Well you learn something new every day.
I was under the impression that administrators were impartial and basically just did what needed doing, it seems they are more like referees when it comes to the old firm.
This is just another reason why the administration rules set out by the league has to be tough. It seems clubs can just clear debt, accept a small (token gesture) points deduction and then move on with a clean slate.
To make matters worse they can also appoint a pussy administrator who will not be too hard on them, unbelievable.

Not too bad. We got paid from them last week and have nothing overdue. Just recent bills which won't hurt too much but I could do without.[/quote]

This is Rangers biggest battle. If they lose this one any funding of an Administration is up in the air. HMRC not likely to fund trading to any great extent and this would hinder their ability to fulfil fixtures etc. If the assets are secured elsewhere and RFC have no unsecured assets available then ceasing trading is a distinct possibility. Meeting their players contracts to retain them for sale is a bit more expensive than Dundee.

Rangers apparently have until 3.30 to appoint Administrators otherwise HMRC likely to get the nod. Interesting to note that if Craig Whyte controlled all the secured assets that the appointment should not be so problematical.

How about a playoff between the club who finishes bottom of the SPL and the 2nd top in the 1st Division to decide who takes Rangers place in the SPL next season.

HMRC have withdrawn their application, so looks like Whyte has go his tame administrator.. :bang:

On the other hand, maybe the HMRC tactic was to rush Whyte into Admin before he was ready?

I don't suppose the administrators can give Whyte preferential treatment? would this be seen as unethical?
