Isn't the current rule not something along the lines of it only being a straight red if the fouling player makes no genuine attempt to play the ball. May be only if it's the double jeopardy scenario with a penalty but I'm sure that's what it changed to ahead of the World Cup.

I don't really care either way mind you.
If you're committed enough, you can make any story work. I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it.

Yeh you may be right with that one in which case he made a genuine attempt for the ball so if that rule is in place then it would be worth appealing.

It only applies to penalties.

And this was one of the simplest red card decisions you'll ever see. Can't believe anyone is arguing against it.

I haven't even seen the foul - couldnt be @rsed watching the "highlights"!

That’s right it wasn’t a penalty! Getting mixed up there.

Yes clear red card and agree that I can’t understand why anyone would suggest otherwise.
