Welcome Ray

Post by Falkirkfan6871 » Friday 31st 2018f August 2018 10:05:08 PM

He’s got Both Raith and Dundee United to play offs before so I think it’s worth a bash I would take playoffs over finshing bottom .

I believe the current squad wouldn’t be good enough to claw back for a title challenge anyway. 4th would do this season.

I'd take anything above 9th at this point, that's how much faith I have in the squad. Be great to see him bin Muirhead and actually play the lads in their natural positions. Maybe Robson could come back into the fold? Play a system to suit the like of Sammut who must be a player being Chelsea U23s captain. Lewis to play upfront rather than wide left. Anything has to be better than Hartley. The guy made Houston look world class

Having read Morton's statement this could get a bit acrimonious once the dust settles.

This could turn out to be a coup if he can squeeze something out of this squad of players at least until our next revamp in January.

Good luck Ray, you'll need it!

What a relief. Was fearing for the worst there. The more I think about it, the more I'm happy with this appointment. Not expecting miracles with the squad he's got to work with but hoping with some organisation and effort we'll start picking up some points to lift us up the table a bit.

And that Morton statement - Jesus Christ! Might actually make the effort and go through to their patch when we play them there next. Love noising others up a bit.

Note also that we’ve signed Zak Rudden on loan from Rangers.

We also signed Zak Rudden from Rangers on a 6 month deal. Not sure if this was a left over from the previous management or one of Ray McKinnon's first.

A bit worried about McKinnon appointment but will wait and see how things develop. I know a bit about Rudden however having watched him numerous times over the years. 2-3 years ago I was convinced he would go on to be an outstanding striker however in last couple of seasons the wheels have come off the wagon a bit. His first touch is poor and finishing could be better but he works all day running the channels. He’s a good bit behind Nelson for example and that’s from someone who isn’t Nelson biggest fan. I think championship is a stretch for this young man but sincerely hope I am wrong and this is the spring board to get him back on track. If taking anyone on loan from Gers I would have preferred we took a gamble on their young right back who at least would be comfortable there.

given the alternatives left, hopkin aside, I think this is about as good an appointment as we could have expected. he has a decent 'record and knows this league well which is what we need urgently at the moment. a manager, along with players, who are inexperienced in this league would have been a recipe for disaster.

thought rudden played well enough against us in the irn bru cup but again is this what we gave become signing really young inexperienced players on 6 month loans to save us? I know we are weak all over the park but it's the striking situation that worries me most. there's not 1 of our strikers I'm convinced is that great.

I'm hoping alloa arent that great and McKinnon gets us competitive again quickly. it seems like ages since I've gone to a game confident and enjoyed the football

His primary target is 9th. His stretch target will be 8th.
Was never going to this game, but will be at Ayr next week. By all accounts, a wee bit more of a clue about who was doing what today, but still serious doubts over whether or not many of these lads are good enough for this level.

How McKinnon deals with that, I really do not know, but after last week, I think it’s beyond the capabilities of simply coaching and organisation.

Been away and without access to news, internet, etc for a couple of days and just back to see this. Have to say I'm completely underwhelmed by this appointment. They state that he has a proven track record record in the Championship including getting Dundee Utd to the play-offs, erm wasn't that really pretty much a failure then, as they really should have been looking for the title that season and could only finish 3rd.

Sorry to bring some doom and gloom to this thread but that's how I felt as soon as I turned on my computer tonight and saw this. However in saying that I will obviously be supporting McKinnon and wishing him all the best. The disappointing aspect for me is that, as I've mentioned before, I've fallen out of love with the game and haven't had a desire to go to a game for a couple of years, but find myself looking for something exciting to take me back. For a fleeting moment when Ian McCall was a possibility I was without doubt going to go to his first game in charge. But this appointment just makes me think that I'll keep an eye on things for a few months to see if it improves before deciding if it's worth spending money to watch.

ps
wonder how McCall and the Ayr Utd fans are feeling today after their euphoria from Thursday
I was free and clear. I was living the dream. I was stripped to the waist eating a block of cheese the size of a car battery.

Not sharing your despondency with the appointment of McKinnon. Given the realistic options, he is probably head and shoulders above the rest that seemed to be popping to the surface.

The thing that really stands out is how the appointment of a new manager seems to have been “a bridge we will cross when we come to it”, and the priority was to get Hartley gone as soon as possible.
For our BoD to be so seemingly aligned on this tells me that this has been as much to do with his attitude to club personnel as it is results.

That old adage of being nice to people on the way up certainly comes to mind.

Pretty much my thinking too. I suspect there is all kinds of sh1t that happened behind the scenes that will no doubt find it's way out to the public. No danger this was a purely results/performances driven decision.

Zak Rudden scored for Scotland U19s tonight. I know it’s unrelated but couldnt be bothered to post a new thread.

I saw this lad play against FV Academy last year. He scored a Hatrick although every goal was put on a platter to him by Billy Gilmour. He looks a player but hard to say how he will fair in the championship. I think this 2 week league break can only be good for McKinnon to get to know the players better and to sift through the pile of rubble left to him.

It's quite nice having a manager who looks happy. Wasn't enamoured by the appointment but looking forward to seeing if there's a change in style and performance.

No guarantees who you appoint but hopefully he turns out to be successful.

Is it me or is Joe McKee having a dig at Hartley here :?:

Well if you read between the lines it makes perfect sense and it showed when Hartley was in charge. No wonder there was no cohesion in the team, no chances being created or goals being scored. Maybe this team can improve and maybe they aren't all that bad. They just need direction. Rome wasn't built in a day so give McKinnon a few weeks to find his best 11 and to implement his style, who knows. I've been optimistic before and I've learnt my lesson so expect nothing and if we do well then it's a bonus.
