falkirk v Brechin 31st march 2018

Post by Bridge of Allan Bairn » Saturday 31st 2018f March 2018 06:21:56 PM

would have been very happy with 3-0 prior to kick off so will take it.

next 2 games are massive. win them and we are right back in the mix

Played some great stuff in the first half but second was grim with them playing total defence.
Jakubiak was just brilliant at times. We’ve just got to enjoy him before he’s off to bigger things!!

Excellent first half but abysmal second half which wasn’t helped by the selection of such a defensive bench and also paying Nelson out wide. Got to question Hartleys defensive set up against dross like Brechin. In a game we should have won 4 or 5 nil against 11 it was pretty embarrassing to play the majority of the game versus 8 and score 1 goal. 3 points in the bag but today’s performance reinforced the reasons why Hartley hasn’t taken us to the playoffs

agreed jakubiak is a player I would happily pay to watch. was kicked all over the park first half and drew pretty much all of their bookings.

special mention also to aero for a brilliant first goal which on these games is always vital. showed urgency and some skill.

way too much phaffing about second half

Will be interesting to see what Watford do with Jakubiak. I think his contract is up in the Summer. He's clearly too good for the Scottish Championship. Should Watford go down, he's not what they're needing to get back up quickly. I guess I am just praying that whatever happens we can somehow get him back at the club for 2018/19!

Enjoyed the game today though - except for the utterly baltic conditions. F*ck me I'm still thawing out. The football at times was fantastic but you do have to be mindful of the opposition - Brechin are possibly the poorest Championship side of all time. They'd be mid table in League One at best. I did feel a little disappointed with the second half. I referred to it as being "insipid" on Facebook which might be a little harsh but it did highlight what we've lacked this season - urgency, direction and creativity. Again, harsh when winning a game 3-0 but I do believe that most of the top half sides in this league would have managed 2 or 3 goals in that second half.

Muirhead put in a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde performance for me. Very solid in first half - great movement and finish for the goal. Second half was bad pass after bad pass though. Still, solid overall.

With things cooking up nicely for those in the playoff hunt it will be interesting to see how we do between now and the end of the season. Only 2 games at home left which is a pretty cruel run in.

If that is the case, we might actually have some chance of getting him for next season. Were he out-of-contract, and Watford decided not to retain him, you'd imagine there would be a few offers from teams up here which we could not hope to match. Perhaps even someone like Hearts, Levein has a trackrecord of taking a chance on players who have shown up well in the lower leagues. I've enjoyed watching Jakubiak, he's got a bit of something about him and is one of the few players in our squad, along with Sibbald, who isn't afraid to run at the opposition with the ball.

First half was excellent with an utterly mind boggling performance by Muirhead, who actually looked like a football player at times. Obviously that could only last a maximum of 45 minutes as second half Muirhead, like most of the rest went back to their normal mediocre selves. Only managing one goal in 45 minutes against 9 men is pretty woeful. Would I have settled for 3-0 pre-match? Probably. But against 9 men that was just mindnumbingly boring in the second half. The substitutions had an adverse effect, but setting up with 3 central defenders against this mob is laughable. Only positives for me was that Muirhead had a decent half of a game for the first time in a while, Robson, Sibbs, Blair and Jakubiak were very good, and McGhee, Nelson and Longridge were decent. We won't make the play offs at either end of the table but thats ok given the start we made and the players of limited ability we still have at the club. Close season clear out can't come quick enough for me.

I'm usually a harsh critic, but I cannot today. The players tried, they just don't have the tools needed to beat an ultra defensive team. Greg Shaw where art thou

We have nice players, play into space even with Alex J and Nelson touches of class its still tough against a team who don't want to be scudded.

The only criticism I have is for Hartley. the bench selection was a complete joke. 1 goalie ( a must) 1 Centre half ( fine) 3 Centre mids in Mckee, Taiwo and Welsh and finally 2 right sided players in Harris and Tumilty - that is so unbalanced. Where is O'hara? Or even the best U20 player from last week.
Give yourself options man!!
I'm a bad man who doesn't waste time wondering what could've been when I am what could've been and what could not have been. I live on both sides of the fence. My grass is always green.

Got to agree. Playing brechin so why no forwards on the bench? A pile of sitting midfielders and tge useless harris . This was the ideal chance to give a couple of younger guys a slot on the bench. Substitutes were mindboggling. No idea why nelson was stuck out wide when ge was one of only two forwards we had. Necessary 3 points but another dreadful second half as we passed the ball from side to side.

Yes, agreed.

Surely instead of trying to play centrally through a 6-2-0 formation the idea would be to get it wide? Harris on the left, when he can't use his left foot to cross is stupid. He cut back into traffic 19 times out of 20. So he should have been wide right to stretch them and get balls in the box for our main strikers to attack. Push up Robson to do the same from the left.

We also commented on the bench. No Loy (I know), O'Hara or any U20 striker to replace injured forwards or just have a run around once the game's won.

Very odd.

Didn't O'Hara have a knock?

Anyway we must be on the up if all you lot can moan about is the subs bench.

A few weeks ago it was about how much of a pointless signing Blair was. Now he has came into the team and looked a player but no praise whatsoever. Some of you need to take a good look at yourselves!!

Nice to see the "behind the goals" coverage on you tube giving full coverage of the pre match tribute to Alex Blackwood.

Well deserved for more than 20 years of service to the club.
Its not the taking part that counts......its the WINNING.
