The more I'm thinking about this the more the alarm bells are ringing.

While I agree with the move (and disgusted with the timing/handling), I'm starting to get a really strong sense of dread in the pit of my stomach that we're on the slide towards something catastrophic.
Exactly where I am.
Like what? The club has probably the cash to last to end of the season and 18 players out of contract, we could go part time if we went down.
I'm a bad man who doesn't waste time wondering what could've been when I am what could've been and what could not have been. I live on both sides of the fence. My grass is always green.

Mind you, out of the 18, there must be a good amount of C/H's & defensive mid's?

I don't know the ins and outs of the academy etc but IF the 1st team benefits in the next few seasons then I think it will be a good move. When/If we ever make it back to the top flight and consolidate up there again then maybe the youth setup can be looked at again.

It's time to start focusing on quality over quantity.

Whether you agree with the decision to close the academy or not, the way it has been communicated is appalling.

For staff, coaches and young players to learn of the academy closure via the media is simply not acceptable.
I may have mentioned the quality of our PR/Communications the other week!

I have zero confidence the money will be getting pumped into the first team. Alarm bells are ringing for sure.

BODs are clearly panicking that relegation could be a reality and it’s in their best interest to spend it on the first team. I seriously doubt it will be used elsewhere. They are giving Hartley the money to bolster our squad to hopefully build towards promotion next season. Do I think it will happen? Not confident...

The club is struggling and a lot of what we’ve done is unsustainable.

Interesting to note in light of this the go-ahead of hospitality even when no game against Brechin took place. Are we living hand-to-mouth currently

I was stunned when I read they were pushing on with hospitality! Not from a "are we skint" perspective just from a "who the f*ck do they think they are?" point of view!
If you're committed enough, you can make any story work. I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it.

Yeh did the people who booked hospitality get offered their money back or was it a case of you’ve paid for it so regardless of whether the game goes ahead if you don’t turn up you don’t get your money back?

Sad, but it may have become unsustainable. And if we need money to get rid of players early and pay off their contracts then it makes sense. Of course, being Falkirk we have shown absolutely no ability to handle this the right way, rather choosing to leak this via the papers.

Typical from this bod.

I understand a lot of the folk who were booked that day were having their Christmas bash, and while the lack of a game would have been annoying it wouldn't have prevented them going out and getting bevvied in any case.

I heard about 60 folk turned up, which if accurate would suggest the decision was justified.

Is that right?

400k in the Bank at the AGM. No income since. At
Least one possibly two 100k payrolls since plus other running costs and an MSG not prepared to put their hand in their pockets.

Doesn’t sound very rosey to me

I was there and those numbers are about right looking around.

Heard yesterday that SPL clubs are cherry picking the best players from our Academy.

Apparently they have been given permission to do so by Falkirk FC. :bang:

Don't have any issue with this. What would you expect to happen, the kids to give up football?
Is your child hyperactive; or is he perhaps a twat?

If Gallagher is the cream of the crop then they’re welcome to them. Not been too impressed by any that have came through. Dunne who was barely talked about at youth level has actually looked the most promising but sure we could do better.

Well when your setup has been downgraded from 'elite' to 'prgressive', with appropriate funding cut, this was always going to take place.

That the primary funding scource was left holding the baby, it was only a matter of weeks before this came to happen.

No, but I would expect the club to be paid compensation for their best players.

This can be up to £15k per player if they go to a top SPL club.

With Gallagher away to Liverpool for a reported £200k plus add-ons and Dunne possibly going to Blackburn, does anyone know how much we have now received in transfer fees thanks to the academy?

Surely the running costs have been more than covered with the millions we have brought in. I could see the point of closing it down if it was draining our finances but don't see how that can be possible.

Only thing I can see is with this project Brave, our board have conceded that we won't be able to attract as high a standard to justify having our 'second rate' academy
Better meddle wi' the devil, than the Bairns o' Falkirk
