Falkirk v Hibs 6th August 2016

Post by Bridge of Allan Bairn » Sunday 31st 2016f July 2016 02:46:00 PM

I hope we set out to have a bit of a go in the opening game. Playing defensively will mean they have nothing to think about at the back, we will be camped in and set up for a long afternoon.

Thus I would go with

----------Rogers----------------

Muirhead----Watson----Gaspo----Leahy

-------------Kerr---------------------

-----Rankin-----------Hippo---------

------------Sibbs-------------------------

------Miller-----------Austin--------------

There is no way Houstie will go with this as Hippo seems out of favour and he aint that great at defending, however, for me at least it gives them something to think about. I think he's more likely to set up defensively and move to this in the seond half if we are chasing the game. We are at home and I hope we have a go. A draw would be an okay start, to lose might mean we are chasing them for the season.

I would wager Houstie will start with one up front. I just hope its not Bairdy as we saw last week against St Johnstone as there is no way he can be a target man to releive pressure if and when we punt the ball up the park.

Our problem is that he never goes to attack a perceived "bigger" team to start with, hoping not to lose (a la Craig Levein). He only changes it if we are chasing the game.

Hibs will be coming to the Bairnabeu to lay down a marker for the season. I think we could be in for a torrid afternoon. If we take anything from this match (after watching our recent games) I would be mighty pleased.

I think they'll end up giving us a do in. I can see us on the end of a 3-0 job. We're too slow with the ball going forward and we lack any kind of physicality in the middle, particularly with the loss of vaulks and alston

Missing this as I'm up at Belladrum. Phone firmly switched off until I get back to base at the end of the night, as I fear my mood might be ruined!

I agree with all of this we never set up to take the game to bigger sides we wait till we go behind then it's a recovery job. If we do go one up top and it's baird then we'll have learnt nothing from the St Johnstone game and ill fear the worst. I'd like to see houstie be brave on Saturday and have a go from the off. If we go down at least we do it in a positive way.

Two up top please Housty.

No reason to fear Hibs any more than last season.

Hibs just beat Shrewsbury 4-1 today their fans seem to be very happy with the way they are playing and their strikers are scoring for fun. Expect the unexpected!

I personally reckon that one pacey wide man would make us as competitive as last season

Totally concur & would like to think that we don't have a negative mindset from the off but rather get on front foot & go for it

The last time our first home league game was against Hibs, we got hammered 1-3 and should have more if I recall, as Riordan ripped us to bits. I suspect something similar will happen next week.

I believe Baird and Miller will start, Houston is a creature of habit. Baird is still good at defending from the front and Houston will believe they are suspect at crosses so Miller will be needed.
I'm a bad man who doesn't waste time wondering what could've been when I am what could've been and what could not have been. I live on both sides of the fence. My grass is always green.

Comfortable Hibs win.

They will murder us in midfield.

I have got to agree with the general consensus that we will lose (and lose heavily). Houston is ultra cautious in big games and this lends itself to us starting these games on the back foot. We really need to take the game to Hibs, with our wide guys attacking at every opportunity. Will we though? Naw, I doubt it.

We also have the players available to go 3-5-2 if we wanted, but since that involves an element of adventurism, we are unlikely to do that either.

So its likely to be 4-5-1, or at the best 4-4-2. We have replaced guys who had drive and energy with lightweights or more of what we already have (Kerr/Taiwo types). Cameron Blues from development squad is more attack minded than any of the "first team" central midfielders, but doubt he'll even make the squad.

This is the worst close season in terms of signings I think we have ever seen - especially with the lack of signing an out and out leader or even a play-maker in midfield.

I'd play Hippo wide right, with Muirhead as right full back if we went 4-4-2. I'd play Austin ahead of any of the other strikers we have, as he showed more in an hour than McHugh showed in almost 90 mins. I reckon Miller would be the best foil for him up front, but I doubt Houston will agree, so we are more likely to start with a tried and tested (and failed) 4-5-1 with Baird starting as the lone striker.

Expecting a serious pumping.

It's nearly a decade since we won our opening league fixture and it's highly unlikely that will change on Saturday. There still appears to be a hangover from Rugby Park, where as Hibs are still on a Hampden high. I fancy they will come out the traps from the off so it's vital we don't lose an early goal. Baird rarely doesn't start a league game and I don't see this weekend being any different. We'll probably lump longs balls to him as per :hammer: Hard to see anything other than a comfortable away win. Let's make sure any Hibees in the home end are swiftly dealt with

Hibs only managed to beat us once in 6 attempts last season and that was thanks to a ludicrous penalty decision - if we have a strong ref then I can only see a home win with Lennon sent to the stand for losing the plot. :D

...as long as that strong ref doesn't give 3 pens against us for holding in the box at corners! Hope we've learnt from the St Johnstone game to be very careful with these

2-1 Falkirk Craigen and Rankin to silence the doubters with a goal each.

Kevin Clancy appointed for the game. He's been about for yonks without being in the spotlight for too many fcuk ups.

I think/hope we'll raise things a level for the League campaign.

Very hard to predict how things will turn out this season and there seems to be a hell of a lot of doubters from the off.

If we had being as unprepared as prvious seasons we would be getting players like Craigen, Austin, Rogers etc in at the last minute and people would be a lot more positive about the season ahead but this work was being carried out 6 months ago

The game is nearly upon us and I am optimistically going for...a 0-0 draw. I can't see many goals in us and think Houstie will sit in, if we don't lose a goal early then I believe our defence is good enough to hold out.

The only consolation will be if we do lose is that in the corresponding fixture last season we lost, so any points gained here are a bonus on last season. COYB
