A YEAR AGO TODAY

Post by Bainsfordbairn » Tuesday 22nd 2010f June 2010 02:36:43 PM

I was sitting in the house searching Google Maps to find out where Vaduz was. The Europa ties had just been drawn and I was as high as a kite with excitement.

Now all I have to look forward to is a trip to Northwich.

You could make it more of an adventure by going via the Isle of Man

Vaduz was amazing, was great to see so many sons and fathers making the historic trip together along with every other Bairn that made it, was just a shame the team didnt put in a performance to match ours.

that would have been a class trip, out of interest did the away end there have terracing ? i know alot of german stadiums have these 'safe standing' areas, i doubt standing would have been a problem anyway ? it really annoys me why we can't copy the german authorities' views to supporting.

It were seating, but we stood. They're not that bothered if you sit or stand to be honest...

Agree the whole Vaduz experience was amazing (with the obvious exception of the match itself). Supported Falkirk for over 50 years and never thought I would have the chance to follow them into Europe.

I kept an eye on the FC Vaduz website during the season, and one of the statistics they record are home match attendances. By a fair margin, the attendance at the Falkirk game was the largest of the season - and that had little to do with the home support. Can't confirm the actual numbers as they've updated the website for the new season.

Against the might of Hafnarfjaroar from the Icelandic League? As Wiki says:

"The team are perhaps best known outside Iceland for beating Scottish side Dunfermline in the qualifying rounds of the 2004/05 UEFA Cup 4–3 on aggregate. With the second leg in injury time and the aggregate score at 3–3, Dunfermline were set to go through on away goals. However, Tommy Neilsen scored in injury time to send the Icelandic part-timers into the first round."

Then of course there's your match against the even more formidable FC Hacken of Sweden. You lost that one too.

European games must remind you of matches against Falkirk. Defeat, defeat and even more defeat.

Prepare for another on 7th August.

Vaduz drawing 0-0 at HT in Denmark with Brondby this year.
No financial regulation, no corporate governance, no enlarged divisions, no summer football, no single ruling body, no new cash, no integrity. Behold the 'bright new dawn' for Scottish football,

I remember what a buzz this board was a year ago with the various arrangements being made and plans for the game.
Seems like it was decades ago now after that season we just had

Great experience ruined by the performance (resulting in hefty booing from me at full time and deservedly so) and to an extent George Craigs fannying around with the travel arrangements.
If you're committed enough, you can make any story work. I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it.

Same for me - great experience but the result ruined it for me. Most of us there realised we had another Lambie on our hands as well.

Re the travel, the guys I know who went on the official package thought it was great. I've no idea why anyone would wait on an official package to try and get a budget deal???

Also the clowns on here who were worrying about match tickets when their average crowd's something like 500!

I certainly didn't as I wasn't prepared to wait and see what falkirks official travel agent could come up with, but in some of the fans defence George Craig should never have said there'd be a cheap package. This then gave fans an option not to make their own arrangements for various reasons (Wanted to give money to the club/ wanted to travel in one big group/ wanted someone to blame if the trip had problems/ too lazy to sort themselves out etc)
