Re: Stenny Muck

The chance to make serious money from artificial surfaces has passed unfortunately. Just look at how few teams are left playing amateur football beyond age-group competitions. The Falkirk Sunday Amateur League had 40 teams in the late 1980s...today it's recently folded with single-figure entries. Qu...

Re: Admission Prices v Cowdenbeath (Scottish Cup)

It's the lowest home Scottish Cup attendance since the days of amateurism! 1 September 1888 a crowd of 500 saw Falkirk beat Dunipace at Brockville in a 1st Round tie. A few ties since then have no recorded crowd figures but it's doubtful they would've been less than today's audience. I find it such ...

Re: Malky Mackay

If anyone has been watching It Was Alright in the 70s on Channel 4 this past couple of Saturdays then maybe they could better understand the change in attitudes. From The Goodies to Love Thy Neighbour, from Benny Hill to Dick Emery, the vast majority of 1970s entertainment would be considered racist...

Re: Poppy

Unfortunately, this sort of conversation is so endemic of the 'professional mourners' culture that we live in nowadays. I admire all of those poor souls who gave the ultimate sacrifice, whether in the carnage of the western front or, ironically, the poppy fields of Afghanistan. I observe the minute'...

Re: First Falkirk Game.

April 1975 v Raith Rovers at Brockville. Won 1-0 and would duly clinch the last ever (old) Second Division shortly thereafter. John Whiteford was the FFC hero of the time as he finished top second-tier goalscorer in successive seasons, the latter being the first campaign of the new First Division. R...

Re: Falkirk v Livi - POst Match

Interesting post on the Scottishleague.net website. For those not familiar with it, it is operated by David Ross, he being considered the foremost authority on attendances figures and crowd records (on a side note his 'Roar of the Crowd' book is well worth a read). The attendance officianados have a...

Re: Here we go again

Alex Neil's managerial record is astonishing. Who cares if the club currently leading the SPFL have a core support of around 1,000. Good on them. Well run and very clever in their transfer business of recent years allowing for progress on the pitch. And forget the nonsense of 'where could we have be...

Re: Here we go again

Some interesting and very pertinent points here. It's easy to accuse FFC fans of being hard to please, a claim regularly spouted by many. Sometimes the complaints appear more sensationalist than they possibly merit. But, with the club struggling on the pitch and a BoD seemingly as distant from the s...

Re: Falkirk v Rangers - Post Match Comments

That's five times we've faced Rangers since their Sevco reincarnation and we've lost all five! This against the worst Rangers sides we will EVER see or face! To put it into perspective, as well as the aforementioned Albion Rovers effort which deserved to beat them in last season's Scottish Cup Quart...

Re: New low.

Remember that season too. We were still in with an outside chance of promotion when perennial strugglers Meadowbank came to Brockville for a midweek game in April. Dunfermline had thrashed them 7-1 on the Saturday yet we crumbled 4-2 to totally end any slight hopes. They were bad times and, despite ...

Re: A sad day!

Never mind, Scotland. We have the completed London Cross Rail project to enjoy, HS2 is apparently coming as far north as Sheffield (!) and a new generation of nuclear subs will be sailing up the Firth of Clyde soon. What's there not to like? I'm embarrassed and angry at my fellow Scots. Subservient ...

Re: What do we need to do to kick-start our season?

I know young Robertson's parents through my wife. We made a day of it a couple of seasons back and went to see Queen's Park play at The Shire. Robertson was terrific that afternoon in a 2-0 win and was up and down the left flank continuously. His folks told us how he was devastated when Lennon relea...

Re: Rangers

I remember talking to Shire committee guys when they were in Division 3 and their theory that Rangers signed SPL players for the fear of drawing Celtic in a cup tie is one which has some credence. Those East Enders don't need much to start producing books, t-shirts and DVDs. Can you imagine the para...

Re: Stranraer v Falkirk - Petrofac Cup

I remember standing in the enclosure singing "Book yer buses for Stranraer".
Changed days.
I used to go week in week out but wouldn't thank you for the turgid pedestrian fare on offer nowadays. The playing of one up front is ridiculous!

Re: Stranraer v Falkirk - Petrofac Cup

Worrying times. If Stranraer were in The Championship then they would undoubtedly struggle to avoid the drop....just like Cowdenbeath. And we've now failed to score against either in 210 minutes of combined play! Complacency could see us more likely in the relegation rather than promotion play-offs....

What's going to happen if this lot enter administration again, as seems all the more likely every day? It's going to have a knock-on effect for many clubs, ours included. The precedent was set when Dundee entered administration for the second time four years ago. Rather than a 10 point penalty, they...

Do a straw poll of those who've said something along the lines of "I'm off to get a chinky" or words similar. I know it was freely said in an era when such utterances were common place, but it didn't make you or I racists. Some of these descriptions are merely remnants of a time past when they were ...

Re: Falkirk v Rangers - Pre Match Thoughts

It was very decent for long spells although little of note occurred at either goal in the opening half. The first 15 mins after the break was our best spell and our chance to kill the game. Two great saves from Bell denied us a deserved lead. The opening goal was typically fortunate for the visitors...

Ah yes, good old Neil Rankine. Man of many clubs, supporter of none. I remember there was serious talk of him buying the club in the 1980s at a time when he seemed to be buying up every pub, nightclub and snooker hall in the area. Sponsored the jerseys for a season or two as well. While we had some ...
